What is the True Description of Charged Black Holes?
نویسنده
چکیده
If string theory describes nature, then charged black holes are not described by the Reissner-Nordstrøm solution. This solution must be modified to include a massive dilaton. In the limit of vanishing dilaton mass, the new solution can be found by a generalization of the Harrison transformation for the Einstein-Maxwell equations. These two solution generating transformations and the resulting black holes are compared. It is shown that the extremal black hole with massless dilaton can be viewed as the “square root” of the extremal Reissner-Nordstrøm solution. When the dilaton mass is included, extremal black holes are repulsive, and it is energetically favorable for them to bifurcate into smaller holes.

A Description of Schwarzschild Black Holes in terms of Intersecting M − branes and antibranes
IntersectingM−branes are known to describe multi charged black holes. Using a configuration of such intersecting branes and antibranes, together with massless excitations living on them, we give a description of Schwarzschild black holes following Danielsson, Guijosa, and Kruczenski. We calculate the entropy of these black holes and find that it agrees, upto a numerical factor, with the entropy...

We study magnetically charged black holes in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs theory in the limit of infinitely strong coupling of the Higgs field. Using mixed analytical and numerical methods we give a complete description of static spherically symmetric black hole solutins, both abelian and nonabelian. In particular we find a new class of extremal nonabelian solutions. We show that all nonabelia...
متن کاملBlack Holes with Yang-Mills Hair
In Einstein-Maxwell theory black holes are uniquely determined by their mass, their charge and their angular momentum. This is no longer true in EinsteinYang-Mills theory. We discuss sequences of neutral and charged SU(N) EinsteinYang-Mills black holes, which are static spherically symmetric and asymptotically flat, and which carry Yang-Mills hair. Furthermore, in Einstein-Maxwell theory static...
متن کاملDiscussion on some characteristics of the Charged Brane - world Black holes
Several physical natures of charged brane-world black holes have been investigated. At first, time-like and null geodesics of the charged brane-world black holes are presented. We also analyze all the possible motions by plotting the effective potentials for various parameters for circular and radial geodesics. Secondly, we investigate the motion of test particles in the gravitational field of ...
متن کاملBlack holes and D-branes
Black holes have an entropy proportional to the area of the horizon. The microscopic degrees of freedom that give rise to the entropy are not visible in the classical theory. String theory, a quantum theory of gravity, provides a microscopic quantum description of the thermodynamic properties of some extremal and near extremal charged black holes. The description uses properties of some string ...
